ROANOKE, VA — Just after 5 a.m. this morning, another early morning house fire rocked Southeast Roanoke, a part of town that’s seen a troubling uptick in abandoned home fires.
At 5:02 AM, emergency crews were dispatched to the 500 block of Bullitt Avenue SE following reports of a structure fire. Within one minute, Engine 6 A-Shift arrived on the scene to find the structure fully engulfed in flames. The call was quickly upgraded to a working fire, and crews went to work extinguishing the blaze. By 5:25 AM, the fire was officially under control.
One individual was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to first responders.
The Roanoke Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the cause of the fire. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
This marks yet another fire in the Southeast quadrant of the city, an area already grappling with a high number of abandoned homes, drug activity, and blight. Community members are growing concerned—and rightfully so.
