LYNCHBURG, Va. — A disturbing investigation is underway after a hidden recording device was reportedly discovered inside a women’s dressing room at Dick’s Sporting Goods on Candlers Mountain Road.
According to the Lynchburg Police Department, officers responded on March 14 after a customer made the shocking discovery. Working alongside store management, police quickly identified a store employee as the suspect.
Suspect Identified:
Derek Lee Beard, 26, of Lynchburg
He now faces multiple serious felony charges, including:
- Creation of unlawful images
- Production and possession of child pornography
- Use of a computer to commit sexual crimes against children
- Creation of unlawful images involving a minor
Police say evidence suggests this may have been happening for several months, raising serious concerns that there could be more victims.
