Recording Device Found in Lynchburg DICK’S Sporting Goods Women’s Dressing Room

LYNCHBURG, Va. — A disturbing investigation is underway after a hidden recording device was reportedly discovered inside a women’s dressing room at Dick’s Sporting Goods on Candlers Mountain Road.

According to the Lynchburg Police Department, officers responded on March 14 after a customer made the shocking discovery. Working alongside store management, police quickly identified a store employee as the suspect.

Suspect Identified:
Derek Lee Beard, 26, of Lynchburg

He now faces multiple serious felony charges, including:

  • Creation of unlawful images
  • Production and possession of child pornography
  • Use of a computer to commit sexual crimes against children
  • Creation of unlawful images involving a minor

Police say evidence suggests this may have been happening for several months, raising serious concerns that there could be more victims.
