Fatal Hit-and-Run Under Investigation in Bedford County

Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian early Friday morning in Bedford County.

According to Virginia State Police, the crash happened around 12:29 a.m. on March 6 on Waterlick Road near Valleywood Drive.

Investigators say a vehicle believed to be a 2019–2021 Ford Expedition was traveling east when it ran off the right side of the roadway, striking a mailbox before hitting a pedestrian.

The vehicle did not stop and left the scene, according to authorities.

State Police identified the victim as Robert Lee Dresser, Jr., 57, of Thaxton, Virginia, who died at the scene.

  • Damage to the passenger-side grill
  • A missing passenger-side mirror
