More than 1.5 million bags of shredded cheese sold at major retailers across the U.S. are being recalled after potential metal fragments were discovered in the products, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The recalled cheese was manufactured by Great Lakes Cheese Co. Inc. at its facility in Hiram, Ohio, and distributed nationwide under dozens of popular store-brand and name-brand labels, including products sold at Target, Walmart, Aldi, Publix, Food Lion, Sprouts, H-E-B, and others.
The recall includes several types of shredded cheeses, such as mozzarella, Italian blends, pizza blends, and combination blends with provolone or parmesan.
Consumers who have purchased any of the affected products are urged not to eat them. The FDA recommends throwing them away or returning them to the store where they were purchased for a refund.
