BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. — Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that claimed two lives Friday evening along Stewartsville Road.
Troopers say the crash happened around 7:21 p.m., approximately three-tenths of a mile north of Afton Meadow Road. A 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 was traveling eastbound when it left the right side of the roadway and struck a utility pole.
The driver was identified as Angela Marie Heffinger, 53, of Moneta. Police report she was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the vehicle, Randy Lee Simmons, 54, was also properly restrained and died at the scene.
The roadway was affected for a period of time as investigators worked to document the crash and remove the vehicle. At this time, no additional details have been released regarding contributing factors, and the incident remains under investigation by Virginia State Police.
