Pickup Truck Plunges Off Bridge in Bedford County, Driver Trapped on Railroad Tracks

BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. — Emergency crews with the Forest Volunteer Fire Department responded late Saturday night after a pickup truck left the roadway and crashed off a bridge in Bedford County.

Firefighters were dispatched shortly after 11 p.m. on December 13 to Bateman Bridge Road, where they discovered the vehicle had gone over the bridge and come to rest on nearby railroad tracks below.

The driver remained trapped inside the pickup following the crash. Crews immediately contacted railroad officials to halt any train traffic in the area while rescue operations were underway.

Firefighters carefully descended the embankment to reach the vehicle and began providing medical care to the injured driver. Once the driver was stabilized, a ladder truck was used to safely lift them up from the tracks to an awaiting medical unit for further treatment.

No additional details on the driver’s condition were released.
