Roanoke Daycare Faces Backlash After Alarming Discovery in Bathroom Involving 3-Year-Old Girl

ROANOKE, VA – March 26, 2025 — A Roanoke family is seeking accountability and clarity following an alarming incident involving a three-year-old girl at a local childcare center.

On Tuesday afternoon, Kathy Saunders arrived at the HoneyTree Early Learning Center on Patrick Road to pick up her granddaughter, expecting a routine handoff. What she discovered instead left her stunned.

“I called out to her, and when she appeared, she was coming out of the bathroom with two other children,” Saunders recalled. “It was clear something inappropriate had happened.”

According to Saunders, her granddaughter and one of the boys had their pants down. The encounter raised immediate concerns about the level of supervision in the facility.

She quickly contacted the child’s mother, Megan Cash, who says she’s been left in the dark by the daycare’s management.

“We’ve received no explanation,” said Cash. “There’s been no communication, no accountability. I just want to know how a situation like this could unfold without anyone noticing.”

The child was taken to the hospital for evaluation. While medical professionals found no signs of physical harm, Cash says the emotional impact is just beginning.

“She’s only three, so she’s not fully able to express what happened,” Cash explained. “But she knows enough to feel uncomfortable. Now I have to help her navigate something she doesn’t yet understand.”

The incident has deeply shaken the family’s trust in the daycare. Cash has made the decision to leave her job in order to care for her daughter full-time.

“I can’t risk something like this happening again,” she said. “It’s no longer about convenience—it’s about safety and trust.”

So far, the family says HoneyTree has not responded to multiple requests for information or comment. Our newsroom has also contacted the daycare but has not received a reply as of publication.

The family is now exploring options and considering formal complaints with state childcare licensing authorities.
