VINTON, VA — Authorities in Vinton have filed animal cruelty charges against a local woman after police discovered an injured dog that was later euthanized due to the severity of its condition.

According to the Vinton Police Department, officers were called to a home on Pine Street on October 9 after reports of possible animal neglect. When they arrived, officers found a dog suffering from visible wounds and in urgent need of medical attention.
The animal was transported to a veterinary hospital for treatment, but veterinarians determined the injuries were too severe for recovery, and the dog was humanely euthanized.
Following the investigation, police charged 60 year old Antonia Montouri, of Vinton, with misdemeanor animal cruelty on October 16. Officials say the case remains under review by local authorities.
The Vinton Police Department reminds residents that animal cruelty and neglect are taken seriously, and anyone who suspects mistreatment should contact local law enforcement or animal control immediately.
While an individual has been charged in this case, it’s important to remember that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Charges alone do not constitute a conviction, and the judicial process will determine the outcome based on the evidence presented.
