A Fresh Start: Longtime Vinton Car Wash Gets Much-Needed Makeover Under New Ownership

VINTON, VA — VintonVoice – Passersby on East Washington Avenue today likely noticed a flurry of activity at a familiar local landmark. The faded exterior of the longtime Nichols Car Wash is officially getting a facelift, complete with fresh paint, structural repairs, and a much-needed makeover.

The aesthetic overhaul comes on the heels of a recent change in ownership. The facility is now operating under Vinton Carwash Services Inc., a corporation headed by Scott Andrew Wolfkill. Wolfkill is far from a newcomer to the car wash business; he is a veteran, “long-time operator” with nearly three decades of hands-on experience managing and acquiring automotive washing properties across the Mid-Atlantic region.

Wolfkill’s background includes ownership of facilities like the Mighty Spray Car Wash footprint. Over his decades in the trade, he has navigated everything from shifting consumer habits to regional environmental challenges, such as managing commercial facilities through strict statewide mid-Atlantic drought mandates dating back to the late 1990s.

Recently, Wolfkill has been actively looking to leverage his decades of industry experience by expanding his operational footprint deeper into the region, actively scouting multi-bay self-service properties across neighboring states like West Virginia. His latest acquisition right here in Vinton brings that extensive background directly to East Washington Avenue. Public corporate records show his new Virginia entity was established earlier this filing cycle, paving the way for the recent takeover. While public records do not immediately disclose the final private sale amount for the property transfer, the capital and labor on display today show a clear commitment to upgrading the property.

For many Vinton residents, Wolfkill’s background and the resulting upgrades are a welcome relief. Over the years, Vinton Voice has observed posts and comments in local Facebook discussions describing the car wash as “going downhill” in terms of maintenance and performance. Among those complaints were concerns about the effectiveness of the automatic car wash system, with commenters describing vehicles coming out still dirty and needing additional cleaning in the manual bays.

For those living on the east side of town, however, the location remained the only viable option.

“I’m just glad there is a new owner because this place was really going downhill,” said one local resident who was at the car wash Friday but wished to remain anonymous. “It’s the only car wash in Vinton near my home, so I’m happy they are finally getting it back in order.”

The visual facelift may be only the first phase of the turnaround. A worker at the location told Vinton Voice that additional improvements are planned beyond the exterior work. The scope of those upgrades, whether they will include new washing equipment, and a timeline were not confirmed.

With a seasoned operator at the helm and additional improvements planned, the East Washington Avenue staple appears poised to clean up its act and restore its status as a reliable, convenient community hub.
