LYNCHBURG, VA — A night out turned into a tense situation after nine people became trapped inside an elevator late last night while leaving a rooftop bar on Commerce Street.

According to the Lynchburg Fire Department, the elevator became stuck near the third floor, leaving those inside with no direct way out.
🔥 Rescue crews responded quickly, but due to limited access, firefighters had to enter through the top of the elevator and set up a rope and pulley system inside the shaft.
⛑️ One by one, each person was carefully lifted nearly 35 feet to safety
⏱️ The entire rescue operation took around two hours
✅ No injuries were reported
Officials say everyone inside the elevator remained calm during the ordeal, helping crews carry out a safe and successful rescue.
