ROANOKE, Va. — A man connected to a 2019 killing in Roanoke has been sentenced in Roanoke City Circuit Court.
According to the Roanoke Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, Akoye Dazour Johnson was sentenced Thursday, March 12 in connection with the death of 28-year-old Milton Roman, which occurred on February 2, 2019.
Johnson entered a no contest plea and was found guilty on two charges:
• Voluntary Manslaughter
• Breaking and Entering with Intent to Commit a Felony
Court records show Johnson received:
• 10 years for voluntary manslaughter
• 10 years for breaking and entering (with 8 years suspended after serving 2 years)
In total, the court imposed a 20-year sentence with eight years suspended. Johnson will also face five years of probation following his release, along with five years of good behavior requirements.
Johnson had previously been indicted by a Roanoke Grand Jury in October 2023 in connection with the case. The original charges included first-degree murder, robbery, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
The case stems from the 2019 killing of Milton Roman, which had remained under investigation for several years before charges were brought.
