The Vinton Police Department is recognizing one of its own after a citizen shared a heartfelt message praising an officer’s kindness and willingness to help during a stressful situation.
According to the department, Officer Charlton responded after a motorist experiencing a flat tire called the non-emergency line seeking assistance. What started as a request for help with a few stubborn lug nuts quickly became an example of community policing at its best.
Police say Officer Charlton not only changed the tire safely but also took time to explain how to properly use the vehicle’s jack, listened with compassion, and offered encouragement during what the citizen described as a difficult day.
In a message shared with the department, the citizen described Officer Charlton as “a bright spot in this dark crappy world.”
The Vinton Police Department said acts of service are not always measured by emergencies or life-threatening situations. Sometimes, they are found in simple moments of kindness, patience, and a willingness to help someone in need.
The department thanked Officer Charlton for demonstrating professionalism, compassion, and dedication to the community.
