Two inmates who escaped from a North Carolina jail last week have been captured more than 250 miles away after a multi-agency search involving local, state, and federal law enforcement.
Authorities say 33-year-old Michael Miles Jr. and 21-year-old Lishawn Knott escaped from the Vance County Jail on June 3. Investigators later alleged the pair had planned the escape and received assistance while on the run.
Just before 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, law enforcement officers located and arrested both men at a residence on Old Farm School Road in Asheville, North Carolina. Officials say a special response team surrounded the home before taking the suspects into custody without incident.
The two inmates were originally being held on drug and firearm-related charges. Investigators continue looking into who may have helped them escape and evade capture.
Vance County is located along the North Carolina-Virginia border, making this case one that drew attention across the region.
Do you think anyone who helped the inmates while they were on the run should face criminal charges?
