ROANOKE, Va. — A review of crime data reported in Roanoke City during the first three months of 2026 shows that assaults, thefts, and other property-related crimes accounted for a significant portion of police activity across the city.
According to data compiled from the CityProtect crime mapping system, Roanoke City recorded 1,588 reported incidents between January 1 and March 31, 2026.
The largest category was assault, with 504 reported incidents, representing nearly one-third of all reports during the quarter. Theft and larceny followed with 375 incidents, while 149 vandalism cases were reported throughout the city.

Additional reported incidents included:
- 122 drug and alcohol violations
- 81 fraud cases
- 69 thefts from vehicles or vehicle break-ins
- 60 burglaries
- 56 DUI-related incidents
- 41 motor vehicle thefts
- 30 weapons violations
- 18 robberies
- 4 arsons
- 3 homicides
March Saw the Highest Number of Incidents
Crime reports increased throughout the quarter, with March recording 644 incidents, making it the busiest month for police activity during the period. January saw 576 incidents, while February recorded 368.
Northwest Roanoke Reported the Most Incidents
When broken down by geographic area, Northwest Roanoke recorded the highest concentration of incidents with 681 reports. Other areas included:
- Southwest Roanoke: 346 incidents
- Southeast Roanoke: 328 incidents
- Northeast Roanoke: 207 incidents
While crime occurs throughout the city, the data suggests police responded most frequently to incidents in Northwest Roanoke during the first quarter of the year.
Valley View Boulevard Among Most Active Locations
The most frequently reported block in the dataset was the 4800 block of Valley View Boulevard NW, followed closely by the 4700 block of Valley View Boulevard NW.
These locations are home to some of the city’s busiest retail and commercial areas, where higher call volumes and police activity are often associated with increased traffic, shopping activity, and business-related incidents.
